International activities at the IFS

The connection to the international scientific community is of great strategic importance for the IFS.  Thus, the IFS is anchored in top national and international research. Furthermore, scientists regularly publish their research results in English-language journals or present them at international conferences. In addition, the institute regularly hosts visiting scholars; on the one hand, staff members spend research stays abroad, and on the other hand, guest lecturers from abroad come to the institute for research stays, project exchanges or guest lectures. Finally, the area of teaching at the institute is also characterized by its international orientation, as there are, for example, teaching concepts for the implementation of intercultural education in teacher training.

As part of the IFS Virtual Keynote Series on "Interventions that Support Students' Academic Success", two experienced and internationally renowned researchers delivered instructive keynotes. In the first keynote, Professor Judy Harackiewicz, PhD (University of Wisconsin), addressed the importance of utility interventions in college STEM courses in her presentation on "Promoting Motivation and Performance in Gateway STEM Classes with Value Interventions: Challenges and New Directions". She began by explaining the structure and the evolvement of interventions. A particular focus of the presentation was on the effects of interventions for achievement and motivation.

Assoc. Professor David Yeager, PhD (University of Texas), in his presentation on "What We Learned from 10 Years of Mindset Intervention Research?" gave an overview of the structure of as well as key findings on mindset interventions. In addition, he also addressed the effectiveness of interventions. Thank you again for the insightful and interesting presentations and the fruitful discussion that followed!
