The IQB Education Trend 2018 shows a mixed picture, indicating stability on the one hand, but also rather unfavorable changes in performance in mathematics and science subjects over time on the other. In terms of gender, the IQB education trend reports important findings: on average, girls continue to achieve weaker math skills than boys, while boys perform less well than girls in biology and chemistry and gain less knowledge in physics. Boys also fall behind the results from 2012 more frequently. At the same time, young people are clearly not sufficiently interested in mathematics, chemistry and physics. With a view to later study subjects, it is therefore necessary to promote skills and interest more strongly in school lessons.
