As part of the IFS Lecture Series “What's new in educational research? Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Research Projects in Empirical Educational Research” the main topic on May 12 was “Reading literacy in international large scale assessments”. Kaisa Leino, PhD (University of Jyväskylä, Finland) presented her research based on international large scale assessments on the question “Factors behind reading proficiency - do teachers matter?”. Afterwards, Dr. Ulrich Ludewig presented results of the IFS school panel study, which showed that fourth graders in 2021 could read worse than before the pandemic in 2016. The content of the presentations as well as implications for research and practice were discussed in the plenary session.
We thank you very much for the insightful contributions and the lively discussion!
