By the end of fourth grade, children in Germany tend to feel ill-prepared for digital learning

Compared to children in other EU countries, fewer fourth graders in Germany rate their digital skills as high. This is shown by data from the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS), which is based on representative surveys in 19 participating EU countries. The results illustrate that, in Germany, a comparatively larger number of children do not feel sufficiently confident in using digital media to be well-prepared for digital learning in secondary school. Competent use of digital media is considered a key skill today and is crucial for future academic success as well as for later professional and social participation.
