The editors' volume deals with the topic “ What Competencies Should Today's School Teach for Tomorrow's Society?”.

The eighth volume in the editorial series “Dortmund Symposium on Empirical Educational Research” is dedicated to the topic of which skills are relevant for the future society and how schools can succeed in teaching them. Against the backdrop of social change and the increasing importance of digitality and artificial intelligence for future social life, this volume addresses current central questions of educational research. The contributions in this book shed light on this question from the perspective of different disciplines of empirical educational research and also present current research findings on selected future skills. The resulting implications for today's schools are highlighted and discussed in the contributions.

The e-book is published Open Access, made possible by the Specialised Information Service Education, funded by the German Research Foundation and a network of academic libraries.
