At the IFS lecture series on 27 June, Professor Andreas Dengel from Goethe University Frankfurt spoke about the new school subject "Digital World".

On 27 June, we welcomed Professor Andreas Dengel to the last lecture series of this summer semester. Holding the Chair of Computer Science Didactics at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, his work receives attention and recognition from both inside and outside the scientific community, reflected for example in two best paper-awards and the inclusion in the 2022 Forbes 30under30-list for Germany. He is supporting the introduction of the new school subject ‘Digital World’ in the federal state Hessen as an academic partner with his main focus on didactics.

In the lecture series, he spoke on the topic of ‘Skills development among teachers and students in the subject Digital World: Initial findings and conclusions after two years’. The presentation focused on the conception of content and didactics for the new school subject, which is currently in the second phase of piloting. Exemplarily, one method from the “computer science unplugged”-approach was focused and demonstrated during the talk. Finally, Professor Dengel also presented first results showing positive developments of both teachers and students in all content areas of the course.

We would like to thank him very much for this successful conclusion to the lecture series and all participants for the stimulating exchange!
