Before the assessments begin in the northern hemisphere, the national research coordinators meet to discuss the details of the data collection process.

The Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) is in its sixth cycle. Since 2001, reading literacy at the end of forth grade and thr contextual conditions für learning to read have been assessed internationally every five years. In 2026, around 60 education systems will be studied. Representatives of the national study centers are meeting for the sixth time in this cycle to coordinate the final details of the assessments and conduct training for the coding of the test items in Malta from March 8 to 13. Dr Thomas Brüggemann is participation on behalf of the PIRLS team at IFS. We wish everyone a productive training session, inspiring exchanges, and a successful start to the data collection cycle.
