Yi-Jhen Wu discusses contributions on disruptions in Chinese education.

At the 30th Congress of the German Society for Educational Research (DGfE) in Munich, Substitute Professor Yi-Jhen Wu discusses contributions alongside Professor Barbara Schulte (University of Vienna) in a working group on the topic “Rethinking Chinese Education Through Disruption: Hidden Dynamics, Emerging Practices” meeting on March 24 at 11:30 am.

This working group brings together three papers from different sub-disciplines of education, united by the question: How can Chinese education be understood in the context of disruption? The first, by Dr Haiqin Ning (Freie Universität Berlin), explores Chinese media discourses on external education systems that are cited in policy debates in the wake of PISA, showing how these discourses situate China within global power structures that reproduce colonial dynamics. The second, by Dr Pujun Chen (TU Dortmund University), examines the introduction of competence-based approaches in vocational education and training, highlighting discrepancies between curriculum design and teaching practice. The third, by Dr Kaiyi Li (Leibniz Institute for Educational Media | Georg-Eckert-Institute), investigates disparities in digital infrastructure across provinces, focusing on the role of local governments. Drawing on Foucauldian governmentality, it reveals how governing rationalities and techniques produce unevenness in local implementation practices and outcomes.

We wish you an exciting discussion!
