International activities at the IFS

The connection to the international scientific community is of great strategic importance for the IFS.  Thus, the IFS is anchored in top national and international research. Furthermore, scientists regularly publish their research results in English-language journals or present them at international conferences. In addition, the institute regularly hosts visiting scholars; on the one hand, staff members spend research stays abroad, and on the other hand, guest lecturers from abroad come to the institute for research stays, project exchanges or guest lectures. Finally, the area of teaching at the institute is also characterized by its international orientation, as there are, for example, teaching concepts for the implementation of intercultural education in teacher training.

Leonie Dargiewicz finishes research stay at New York University

During a two-month research stay, Leonie Dargiewicz worked with Prof. Susan Neuman on a project examining synergy effects between medium and text genre.

During a research stay at New York University (NYU), Leonie Dargiewicz collaborated with Professor Susan Neuman and her team. At three preschools in the Bronx, she assisted with surveys in which four-year-old children watched videos or listened to digital stories while their attention was measured using eye tracking.

Based on the project data, Dargiewicz is also co-authoring a scientific article with Susan Neuman on the development of vocabulary and contextual knowledge in monolingual and multilingual learners.

Courses at NYU and various lectures, including at the Early Learning Summit “Begin,” provided her with valuable insights into educational work in New York.
