The fourth network meeting of the SPEAK project focused on the exchange between science, practice, and education administration. Participating teachers from two cohorts, the project team, and representatives from education administration exchanged ideas on September 25, 2025, on the conditions for a successful transfer of the SPEAK support program.

The day began with a presentation by Prof. Hans-Joachim Roth from the University of Cologne, who discussed the SPEAK project in the context of the meta-project “Language Education in an Immigration Society.” The importance of systematic language support with a focus on grammatical skills was highlighted in the presentation by Prof. Dr. Tanja Ulrich from the University of Duisburg-Essen. The SPEAK project team also presented the concept of the SPEAK intervention and the initial results of the first cohort. The presentation was accompanied by a brief input from a practical perspective by Michael van Bonn, a participating teacher at the Catholic Barbaraschule Duisburg. In order to highlight possibilities for the appropriate transfer of the SPEAK support program into school practice, there was a concluding panel discussion with all speakers and Heidrun Schumacher as representative of the Gelsenkirchen Education Office.
