The ‘Motivational Intervention in Civic Education’ (MIiCE) project is investigating whether the motivation of young people can be promoted with the help of brief interventions. To this end, brief interventions are being developed and tested in a study with randomised designs. The brief interventions are intended to help students to develop ways of thinking that are conducive to learning, to perceive themselves as an important part of society and to recognise a purpose in learning about political and social issues. It will be investigated whether the intervention has an impact on motivation and emotions in relation to both political learning and pupils' learning behaviour. The results should help to understand motivational processes in civics education and provide possible courses of action for teachers in order to design motivation-promoting politics lessons.
