Professor Allan Wigfield, who is a central figure in the development of the Situated Expectancy-Value Theory visited the Center for Research on Education and School Development from 13–15 October. During his stay, he presented two talks about the theory, which is pivotal for explaining achievement and educational decisions in educational and motivational psychology. Beyond the well-received talks, multiple junior researchers used the opportunity for exchange about current and planned research projects with Professor Wigfield.
The first talk with the title „Situated Expectancy-Value Theory (SEVT): Some Musings on Theoretical and Research Directions“ focused on the historic development and current efforts to advance the theory, while the second talk, titled „Next Steps in SEVT-Based Intervention Research and How I Became an Intervention Researcher“ emphasized the practical application of the theory in form of interventions to promote motivation.
The guest visit and talks were part of the tu.hosts program of the graduate center of TU Dortmund University. The funding through the program, which aims to strengthen the exchange of doctoral students with renowned international scientists, was successfully acquired by Sebastian Vogel last year.
