The consortium met to prepare for PIRLS 2026. In Germany, 240 elementary schools will participate in the large-scale assessment of reading literacy.

On September 18, 2025, the third meeting of the national consortium for the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS 2026) took place. This highly constructive meeting helped to finalize the instruments for the main survey and to tackle the next steps in the preparation process. In spring 2026, 240 elementary schools in Germany will participate in this international large-scale assessment study, which assesses the reading literacy of fourth graders and important conditions for learning to read. More than 60 countries and regions worldwide are participating in PIRLS 2026.

We would like to thank the consortium for the exchange and support and look forward to PIRLS 2026 with great anticipation.
