Educational equity is an important topic for society as a whole, which has long received attention in empirical educational research and is becoming increasingly important due to the growing ethnic and cultural heterogeneity alongside existing socio-economic heterogeneity. The aim of educational equity is to enable all individuals - regardless of their background - to develop their potential to the best of their ability. In order to achieve this goal, various points can be addressed, a central one of which is the promotion of language skills. The 7th IFS Education Dialogue therefore dealt with the topic of “Promotion of language skills as a basis for greater educational equality”. In this context, findings from science and practice on the challenges that need to be overcome when promoting language skills, but also the benefits that can be achieved through targeted measures, were discussed from various perspectives. The focus was on different aspects of language support, such as vocabulary development, support for digital reading and the learning of grammar and syntax. The edited volume picks up on the contributions presented and builds on the discussion points. Scientific findings on the promotion of language skills are presented, key conditions for their implementation in practice are discussed and promising projects that are already being used in everyday (non-)school life are presented. Finally, the topics are brought together, taking into account the perspectives of educational practice, educational administration, educational policy and educational research, and discussed with regard to school development and necessary support systems.
