In the seventh session of the IFS Lecture Series "Orientation to the average was yesterday: What Empirical Educational Research Says About Teaching Children with Heterogeneous Learning Pre-conditions" on May 25, Professor Jasmin Decristan from the University of Wuppertal was a guest. In her lecture "Interindividual Differences in Students' Participation in Classroom Talk" she reported on mechanisms of selective student participation and their effects on achievement based on re-analyses of video data from the IGEL project as well as the TALIS video study regarding student participation. She presented the conditions and consequences of student- and teacher-driven student participation, and discussed implications for instructional design and, in particular, individualized support. The content of the presentation as well as implications for research and practice were discussed in the plenary session.
