Nele McElvany attends 3rd Meeting of The Federal Youth Advisory Board

The Federal Youth Advisory Board (FYAB) met in Berlin for its third session. Professor Nele McElvany is a member of the board during this legislative period. As part of the academic community, her focus within the council is on issues related to the education of young people aged 6–18.

In addition to information from the Federal Ministry and reports from the working groups, the session provided an opportunity to speak with State Secretary Dr. Petra Bahr and to discuss the structural reform of child and youth welfare with Dr. Carolin Söfker from the BMBFSFJ.

Nele McElvany on her work at the FYAB: “FYAB offers a promising framework for addressing the major issues surrounding young people’s upbringings in Germany from various disciplinary perspectives and drawing on the members’ expertise from both practice and academia.” Drawing on her expertise and her studies at the IFS, she herself will be actively involved in the working group on “Equitable Education.”

The Federal Youth Advisory Board is an expert committee consisting of up to 15 members from politics, administration, associations and academia that advises the federal government on key issues of child and youth welfare, as well as on cross-cutting issues of child and youth policy. Its advisory activities focus on processes of social change and their impact on the realities of the lives of children, adolescents and young adults. On the BMBFSFJ‘s side, the process is being supported by Division Director Dr. Jana Schröder and the Center for Child and Youth Policy at Deutsches Jugendinstitut (DJI; German Youth Institute) (headed by Dr. Pia Jaeger).
