NEPS Network Supports the Evaluation of LIfBi
- News

Every eight years, the institutes of the Leibniz Association undergo a scientific evaluation that assesses the quality of their research, its societal relevance, and their strategic orientation. On October 23, the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi) in Bamberg underwent its scheduled evaluation.
The LIfBi is the founding and coordinating institution of the National Education Panel Study (NEPS), the largest longitudinal education study in Europe. Since 2008, the NEPS network has been tracking children, adolescents, and adults over many years and, with 70,000 participants, provides key data for educational research in Germany.
Professor Nele McElvany was appointed chair of the NEPS Network Committee alongside the President of the University of Bamberg, Professor Kai Fischbach; the President of GESIS – Leibniz Institute for Social Sciences, Professor Christian Wolf, and the Director of the Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education (IPN), Professor Olaf Köller, were interviewed by the international and interdisciplinary review panel as representatives of the collaborating partners regarding the collaboration with the LIfBi and future development prospects.
The evaluation provided a framework for jointly taking stock of the long-standing collaboration within the NEPS network. The IFS has been a central network partner since the inception of NEPS: It has consistently been responsible for Phase 4 (the transition from lower to upper secondary school) under the leadership of Professor Nele McElvany and is also part of the scientific leadership of Phase 5 (general upper secondary level and transition to higher education). The close cooperation between the LIfBi and its partner institutions was a central focus of the discussion. The cooperation partners reaffirmed their commitment to the continuation and further development of the National Education Panel.
