We are pleased to present a new research video by Dr. Jakob Schwerter! In “Importance of students' social resource factors for academic achievement and well-being in elementary school” he sheds light on the importance of social interactions in elementary schools for students' academic success and well-being. The study with colleagues Dr. Justine Stang-Rabrig, Dr. Ruben Kleinkorres, Dr. Johannes Bleher (University of Hohenheim), Professor Philipp Doebler and Professor Nele McElvany highlights that experiences in elementary school can have a decisive influence on children's later development.
Dr. Schwerter concludes that positive social interactions, such as support from teachers and safe environment among peers, significantly enhance students’ well-being. However, academic success in elementary school does not causally depend on positive interactions and can be mitigated. The study underscores the necessity of creating positive experiences in elementary schools and supporting marginalized groups to ensure equitable educational opportunities.
