The Center for Research on Education and School Development (IFS) at TU Dortmund University will host the IFS Education Dialogue on September 17, 2026, on the topic “Language Development in Early Education – Strategies for Effective Implementation in Preschool and Elementary School.” The conference will focus on fostering dialogue among education policymakers, administrators, practitioners, and researchers.
Early language skills are crucial for later educational success. At the same time, research findings highlight persistent social and migration-related disparities in early language development. The 8th IFS Education Dialogue will therefore address the question of how high-quality language support can be designed from the very beginning to sustainably address educational inequalities.
Following an overview presentation on the relevance of early language support, research on preschool language support as well as concepts for continuous support during the transition from preschool to elementary school will be discussed from the perspectives of academia and practice. The conference will focus on the presentation of the project “Shaping Language Education Together with Elementary Schools, Families, and Educational Professionals: What Works?” (SPEAK), in which a digitally supported vocabulary and grammar support program for first grade was developed and evaluated. Results and transfer will be discussed at the event.
We look forward to your participation!
