The article examines digital support resources for refreshing high school-level skills in higher education.

The paper “Wie und von wem werden digitale Unterstützungsangebote zur Testung und Auffrischung schulischer Kompetenzen in der Hochschule genutzt?“ (How and by whom are digital support tools for testing and refreshing academic skills used in higher education?) has been published in the proceedings of Learning AID 2025. The authors, Carolin Horsthemke (IFS), Elena Schmitt (Quality Management, TU Dortmund), Dr. Jakob Schwerter (Hector Institute for Education Sciences and Psychology), and Professor Hanna Gaspard (University of Konstanz) examined the use of online math tests and digital course offerings in math-intensive degree programs based on Moodle click, test, and survey data.

The paper evaluates the collaborative project “Accompanying Virtual Zero Semester” (beVinuS). It supported first-year students with varying levels of proficiency as they began their studies and was carried out by the University of Wuppertal, RWTH Aachen University, and TU Dortmund University from October 2022 to December 2025. Funding was provided by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
