IFS’s Laura Becher and Dr. Ruben Kleinkorres participated in the European Conference on Educational Research (ECER) 2026 in Tampere, Finland. Organized by the European Educational Research Association (EERA), the conference focused on the Theme “Knowing and Acting: The Changing Conditions and Potentials of Education Research.”
Laura Becher organized and chaired a session on performance-oriented school climate. In her contribution, she presented findings from a five-year school panel study on the relationship between elementary schools’ academic optimism and reading achievement. The study was co-authored by Dr. Ruben Kleinkorres and Professor Nele McElvany.
Dr. Ruben Kleinkorres presented a study using PIRLS data from 2001 to 2021. His contribution examined changes in the number of books at home and its relationship with parental education and academic achievement.
Both sessions were well received and prompted lively discussions and interested questions. The conference also provided valuable opportunities for professional exchange, new contacts, and insights into current international educational research.
