In the Deutschlandfunk series "Hotspots of German learning research", the IFS introduces itself and presents an excerpt from its research work. Deutschlandfunk talks to the IFS about why children with a migrant background in particular drop out of school more often and are less likely to complete their A-levels, and whether this can possibly be prevented. Finally, in the DFG project "Stereotype threat", the institute is currently researching whether prejudices, such as "children with a Turkish migration background do not learn German properly", influence the German vocabulary of children of Turkish origin and therefore have a negative effect on learning. Initial surveys have already shown this negative effect of stereotypes on learning. The aim now is to find out how this can be avoided.
