The DiverSE project develops and evaluates diversity-sensitive, digitally supported language promotion modules for early childhood education.

The project “Digitally Supported and Diversity-sensitive Language Promotion in Early Childhood Education” (DiverSE) marks the launch of a new research project aimed at developing and evaluating multimodal, diversity-sensitive intervention modules targeting key precursor skills for reading in early childhood education settings.

Reading competences are a key prerequisite for educational success, lifelong learning, and social participation. However, significant differences in key precursor skills for reading can already be observed before children enter school. Against the backdrop of the (including linguistic and social) diversity of children in early childhood education settings and the increasing digitization of learning processes, DiverSE develops digitally supported and diversity-sensitive language promotion modules for use in early childhood education.

Using an experimental design, the project examines the effectiveness of the modules, professional development measures for early childhood educators regarding the use of intervention modules and diversity-sensitive language promotion, as well as the involvement of the family environment. Throughout the project, the potential and limitations of integrating analog and digital promotion approaches are evaluated.

A research-practice network involves key stakeholders at an early stage in the development and implementation processes to ensure practical feasibility in a context-sensitive manner. Following the completion of the project, the developed materials will be made available as open educational resources for broad educational practice.

The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMBFSFJ).
