IFS School Panel Study
The IFS School Panel is a study, which has been following schools since their participation in PIRLS 2016. The aim of the study is to map and analyze trajectories of school development over a 10-year trend.

Project description
The IFS School Panel examines the long-term school development of primary schools in Germany over a 10-year-trend. The aim is to find out how key general and digitization-related institutional characteristics at school, teacher, and teaching level have developed between 2016 and 2026. In addition, the relationship between these characteristics and important school outcomes in three areas (reading skills, reading motivation, well-being) is analyzed.
A wide range of aspects of school development is considered. The school environment, job satisfaction of teachers and school leaders, and leadership style are examined. At the same time, school resources and support measures are analyzed. At the student level, for example, the focus is on reading instruction, the use of digital media in the classroom, and students’ well-being.
Overall, this creates a broad picture of the implementation and conditions of school development, which can be related to the previous studies conducted in 2016 and 2021. This makes it possible to gain important insights into school development at primary schools in Germany.
