School Development and Education Systems

At the center of the research area “School Development and Education Systems” is the study of how schools and education systems can be further developed in order to best support learning and developmental processes and to meet current societal challenges. Schools are analyzed comprehensively and in international comparison, both as organizations and within the broader structures and processes of education systems. The focus lies on the design and implementation of (inter)national large-scale assessments, the examination of the quality of school conditions, and the analysis of teaching and learning processes. In addition, key issues such as digitalization, heterogeneity, and educational equity are systematically investigated. The aim is to provide empirically based impulses for sustainable school development, quality assurance, and reform processes – in close dialogue with policymakers, administration, and educational practice.
