Against the backdrop of acute challenges such as the merely average results in international comparative studies, the sluggish digitization of schools in Germany, and the shortage of teachers, the IFS is launching a new program series, "Tuesdays for Education", in the context of the findings of the PIRLS study, in which current findings on topics related to the need for further development of elementary schools are presented and discussed. Starting on September 12, 2023, the program series will be dedicated to the further development of elementary schools in Germany on the second Tuesday of each month. A special focus will be placed on the key competence of "reading", as this competence is of crucial importance for children's entire school and professional careers and their private life paths. The "Tuesdays for Education" series aims to advance the major issues in education, promote new ideas, and provide insights into the latest research findings. Therefore, in the future, a brief report on a key topic will be published on the second Tuesday of each month with an accompanying press release. Interested parties are invited to participate in a free webinar, engage in dialogue, and join in the discussion.

The first session on September 12 ("Focus on teachers: training, in-service training, job satisfaction, stress experience") will thematically address how satisfied elementary school teachers are with their profession and where they see room for improvement in training and in-service training. We are looking forward to numerous registrations!
