Like the PIRLS study 2021 for reading skills at primary school age, the current PISA report for 15-year-olds in Germany shows a significant decline in skill levels. In addition to reading, this also applies to mathematics and science. In addition, as in the PIRLS study, an above-average correlation between social background and educational success was found. "Reducing the correlation between social background and educational success and overcoming the education crisis requires a strengthening of basic skills and needs-based support for children from the outset", states Professor Nele McElvany.
