How can newly immigrated children learn best at school, what is important for their integration? This is what the cooperative project "SIGN – School Integration of Newly Immigrated Children", which is funded by the Mercator Research Center Ruhr (MERCUR), wants to find out. Starting today, April 4, the IFS will begin surveying fourth-graders in the Ruhr region. The study focuses on children with experiences of flight as well as children of ethnic minorities (e.g. Roma) from (southern)eastern European EU countries. The surveys, which are also being conducted by the project partners at the University of Duisburg-Essen and the Ruhr University Bochum, are expected to continue until the end of May.
