9th Dortmund Symposium on Empirical Educational Research „Socio-emotional and cognitive development in learning: educational goals in competition?!“

Call for Papers

The Center for Research on Education and School Development (IFS) at the TU Dortmund University is organizing the 9th Dortmund Symposium on Empirical Educational Research on July 4, 2024. This year’s conference is dedicated to the topic „Socio-emotional and cognitive development in learning: educational goals in competition?!“. Theoretical approaches and current findings will be presented and discussed to address the question of whether these two educational goals are actually in conflict or to what extent they can support each other given certain conditions. Taking into account the normative task that all learners should acquire basic competencies, we consider the role of socio-emotional aspects – such as emotions, motivation and well-being – in learning and the question of how socio-emotional learning can be designed for heterogeneous groups. It will be discussed how contemporary educational research can enrich the multidimensional educational process to address the various educational goals. Doctoral researchers who are conducting research in this area in their qualification theses and/or working with data from current studies related to the conference topic are invited to present their research in the context of this event and discuss it with recognized experts.

On July 3, 2024 starting at 3 p.m., the early career researcher conference will take place as part of the 9th Dortmund Symposium on Empirical Educational Research, at which selected doctoral researchers can present their research work in a moderated poster presentation in about three minutes and then discuss it with the plenum. On July 4, 2024 at the main conference, the poster contributions of the doctoral researchers will be exhibited and the participants can vote for the best poster.

A poster prize of 200 euros, donated by Waxmann Verlag, will be awarded. The presence of the poster presenters on both days is nessesary for participation.

Start: 03.07.2024, 03:00 p.m.
